CFB Shearwater HLA 16-34 Construction
May 2007 marked the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a new Heliport, replacing the existing, fixed wing runway: 16R-34L and connecting Taxiways. The project involved a topographic survey of the existing runway and taxiway, cut/fill profiles for resurfacing
Halifax Stanfield International Airport
An ongoing project that began in 2005, with the rehabilitation of Runways 05-23 and 14-32 and Taxiways Delta, Foxtrot and Echo.
Dartmouth Crossing
One of Nova Scotia’s newest commercial developments comprised of over 70 shops and services. Thompson Conn has been involved with this project since 2004 when we completed the entire original topographic survey.
We have provided the following professional geomatics services for this project:

Initial photo control, aerial mapping for preliminary concept design and functional planning, delivered in digital and hardcopy maps at a scale of 1:1000.

Exterior boundary survey of the project.

Subdivision plans and descriptions.

Construction layout services for municipal services and buildings.

Construction layout of all over and underground electrical and telecommunication poles and conduit.

As built surveys and certifications for all municipal services.

Volume reconciliation and reporting on a monthly basis for mass earth moving over a two year period.

Leasehold surveys to BOMA standard for all leased premises.
Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline
Thompson Conn was a major partner in Terratech Consultants Inc., a consortium of five Maritime survey firms providing surveying services for Maritime & Northeast Pipeline’s natural gas mainline from Goldboro, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia through to the New Brunswick – Maine border, as well as lateral lines into Halifax, Nova Scotia and St. John, New Brunswick. Terratech successfully completed all aspects of survey work from establishing a solid control network, cutting several hundred kilometers of line, determining legal boundaries through to construction and the preparation of legal plans for easement acquisition.

Ken Whalen, a Partner with Thompson Conn, was responsible for a majority of the legal surveys required to obtain the necessary easements through Nova Scotia. Ken managed the many field crews, office staff and supervisors for the survey portion of the mainline from Goldboro to Moncton during the construction phase.

Ken also managed the survey of the lateral from the M&NP Mainline to Amherst, Nova Scotia for Heritage Gas.
Newfoundland
In the summer of 2013 Thompson Conn and several Nova Scotia and Newfoundland survey companies embarked on a project in the north eastern region of Newfoundland to establish a transmission corridor for the Maritime Link, an energy transmission project that will link the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia for the very first time. When completed, The Maritime Link will supply affordable, reliable and renewable energy to Nova Scotians. The project included a profile of the existing and new sections of transmission lines, determining the boundaries along the corridor and cross section information used in the planning of the tower and transmission lines locations.
