Thompson Conn Limited, incorporated in 1996, is an employee owned consulting firm managed by six professionally qualified shareholders with its head office in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The company has grown steadily since its establishment in 1980 and presently has a core staff of over twenty people, expanding to meet demand during seasonal busy periods and large projects.Thompson Conn also has established an office in North Sydney to provide consulting services to the eastern end of the province.

The combination of practical experience, sound management, the latest in advanced geomatics technology and software allows Thompson Conn to offer a high standard of varied professional services in a timely and cost-effective manner. This blend of experience and technology means the successful completion of both large and small projects for a variety of clients.

Over the past 33 years, this firm and its wholly owned subsidiary, Eastcan Geomatics, have consistently provided reliable services in the geomatics industry. Through thousands of construction, boundary, subdivision, engineering, aerial mapping and photogrammetry projects, we have demonstrated our competence and capabilities in providing quality services.

Thompson Conn Limited serves a broad clientele for the retracement of property boundaries. Each of our 6 licensed surveyors has many years of experience in boundary surveying and the preparation of plans. We have carried out extensive surveys for both Federal and Provincial Government Departments such as Public Works and Government Services Canada, Department of National Defence, Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources, Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal and Nova Scotia Department of Housing. Our team has completed many large scale boundary retracement projects for subdivision and retail developments. We have also carried out many surveys of prime real estate in the downtown core of Halifax.

Together with the services provided to government departments and major developers, a large part of our business is providing service to residential home owners for fence construction and property improvement.

Kenneth M. Whalen

Ken was licensed as a land surveyor in 1985. He is our managing partner and senior field project manager. Ken’s project experience includes::

Natural Gas Pipeline in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick – project coordinator for Natural Gas Pipeline from Goldboro, Nova Scotia to Moncton, New Brunswick and lateral line into Halifax, oversaw the legal and construction surveys for the project with a staff in excess of 40, for preliminary route design to the final as-builts

Melford International Container Terminal– project manager, overseeing the legal, topographic and construction layout survey for project including a 250 acre terminal site, a 1500 acre logistics park and a new 26 km long rail line

Christopher W. Parsons
Director | P.Eng., N.S.L.S.
Chris attended The College of Geographic Sciences (GOGS) from 1991-1993 where he obtained his Survey Technician certificate and Survey Technologist Diploma. After COGS Chris went onto The University of New Brunswick and graduated in 1999 with a degree in Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering.
He received his commission as Nova Scotia Land Surveyor in 2009 and received his P.Eng. commission in 2010. He has completed other courses since graduating such as Qualified Persons course, wetland delineation, and several safety courses.
Chris’ experience includes Topographic Surveys, Legal Surveys, boundary retracements, data processing,BOMA measures, Laser Scanning, GNSS data processing and is experienced with AutoCAD.

Bryan C. Conrad

Bryan started with Thompson Conn in 2014. He is a licensed Land Surveyor and is registered as a
Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia. Bryan has developed into various roles in the company which include a variety of legal and topographic land survey work to photogrammetry, GIS projects and LiDAR processing.
Bryan’s project experience includes:

Jessica Doucet
Director | CET
Jessica has been working with Thompson Conn since graduating from NSCC Centre of Geographic Sciences in 2016. She is currently working towards her land surveyors license while managing the leasehold measurement surveys and assisting with various survey projects.
Jessica’s project experience includes:

Leasehold Measurement Surveys – locations including the Halifax Shopping Centre, Dartmouth Crossing and various Burnside Business Park locations.

Site Surveys – various site surveys across the Maritimes to develop MEP plans, fire exit plans and floor plans to create 3D models of buildings and leasehold areas.

Highway 104 Twinning – assisted in drafting plans for the new 38 km highway from Sutherlands River to Antigonish.
SAFETY
Wanda Wheaton
Office Manager
Wanda has been with Thompson Conn since graduation from university.
She is the initial contact for anyone that calls with any inquires or looking for a quote for services.

She oversees the company's financial records, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and daily account operations.
​
Wanda coordinates with staff and clients to make sure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
Christopher Clarke
Safety Officer | BA, Diploma Survey Technology
Chris attended Mount Allison University (1977-1981), where he received a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Geography and History. After graduating Mt. A, he attended Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, in Calgary (1981-1983), where he obtained a Diploma in Survey Technology, with a major focus in Photogrammetry / Cartography and a minor focus in Survey.
Chris has 40 years’ experience in the mapping and survey and has since joining Thompson Conn Limited has worked as a survey technician, historical photo researcher and GIS technician. Shortly after joining the company Chris took charge of the company Safety program maintained the program for the past 18 years.
Chris Safety Program duties include:

Overseeing the Safety Policy manual, review and updating.

Review and writing of Safe Work Practices and Job Procedures.

Safety training and records for the survey crews.

Conducting survey crew toolbox meeting as well as semi-annual safety meetings.

Site safety inspections.

Incident investigations.

Safety Audits for program. The company having been COR certified for the past 18 years.

Maintaining maintenance records and the maintenance of company equipment.

Maintenance of company document required for certification through ISNetworld for NSPI/Emera projects.

Creation of Emergency Action Plans required for NSPI/Emera and other large scale survey projects.

Personal Information
Personal information for our purposes is; that information necessary for the provision of professional land surveying services provided to you, and information necessary to administer this land surveying practice. Personal information includes all that information provided by you to us on our client history form at the first visit and any subsequent visits. Personal information may also include any information provided by you to us during the normal course of communication between client and survey office staff. We will use and disclose only information provided to us by you or another person acting on your behalf.

We are committed to protecting your personal information. We have established and implemented a variety of security measures to properly manage and safeguard your personal information from loss, theft and unauthorized access. Access to your personal information shall be on “need to know” basis.
